Hello, parents and fellow art learners and lovers. My name is Hillary King. I am an Artist and Art Teacher. I am offering private and small group art lessons in the Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre and Arcadia areas.

I teach art on Monday and Wednesday with ACE at The McGroarty Arts Center in Tujunga.
I also offer private and small group lessons (up to 3 students) at my home studio.
If it is more convenient, I'm happy to travel to you (I will travel up to 15 miles).
If the above options do not work. I do offer Zoom classes.

Education and background
I have a BFA from The Maryland Institute College Of Art. My focus was in General Fine Art. Today I mostly enjoy using charcoal, oil pastels, watercolor, and pen. I am also intrigued with any quick at-home method of printmaking such as mono printing and working with linoleum plates. In addition to having a BFA I also have a Masters Teachers Permit in Early Childhood Education.
Work Experience
I have been teaching art to K - 12 grade for about eight years. Before deciding to teach art full time, I was a preschool teacher at Pasadena City College Child Development Center for nearly a decade.

* Cancelation Policy - Please allow at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson.
1 hour lesson in studio rate
60 per child
This is best suited for ages 6 and up.
1 hour lesson travel rate
70 per child
This is best suited for ages 6 and up.

Lessons and offerings
- Lessons are designed around each student's interest
- One hour private and small group lessons for ages 5 and up (shorter lessons available for younger students)
- Private and small group lessons for the beginner adult
- 90 minutes - 2 hour lessons (for the older student)
Lessons by specific medium
- Charcoal - Learn about and work with the different types. Explore and learn about line, shading, positive and negative space.
- Oil Pastel - One of my very favorite mediums to work in! Blend colors, create line and texture. If you enjoy working in color this is the medium for you.
- Mono Printing with Gelli Plates and Linoleum - Gelli Plates are so fun with unlimited printing possibilities. Part of beauty of working with Gelli plates, is that end result is always a surprise. Linoleum cuts are a great way to create texture and high contrast.
- Watercolor - While I was in college this was a medium that I wasn't that interested in. Fast forward many years and I can't believe how much I love everything about this beautiful medium. With a few basic tips under your belt... You might surprise your self!
